Subject: Musing 12: Unspoken rules of the inner world

Life would’ve gone a heck of a lot smoother if I had learned the rules of the inner world. I didn’t.

I thought the same conditioned rules of the outer world applied to the inner world. They didn’t.

Only after seeing this over and over again and learning to live in accordance with the real inner world rules did my felt-sense experience improve.

(Nowhere near perfect of course. The conditioning of the external rules runs so deep that some days I still find myself trying to make what doesn’t work, work. Which obviously doesn’t work lol.)

So inside this email, I thought I’d share with you some of the unspoken rules I had to learn the hard way and how these rules run contrary to the conditioned rules of the outer world.

Maybe it’ll be of help. Maybe it won’t.

I don’t know. But here goes.

(1) Outer world rule: If you don’t like something, change it.

Inner world rule: If you don’t like something, refrain from changing it. Stay present with it and by itself it’ll transform. The more you try to change it, the more it becomes stuck and stays there.

(2) Outer world rule: Run towards pleasure, away from pain.

Inner world rule: Allow everything and anything to arise. Remain internally open and spacious. Feel it all fully.

(3) Outer world rule: To win the battle, you must fight like hell and never give up.

Inner world rule: To win the battle, you must cease fighting and give up.

(4) Outer world rule: To experience your greatest potential, you must become a somebody.

Inner world rule: To experience your greatest potential, you must become the greatest nobody you can be.

(5) Outer world rule: Take control of your life and live it as you see fit.

Inner world rule: Let go of the illusion of control entirely and surrender to what is in each and every moment for it is the highest and all is rigged in your favor.

(6) Outer world rule: Focus on growth and constant improvement.

Inner world rule: Leave yourself alone for once. Quit meddling with yourself and fucking with your inner experience.

(7) Outer world rule: You have to work like a dog to gain the treasures of the world.

Inner world rule: The treasures are your birthright. All you have to do is cease to identify with the part of you that is programmed to think it has to work like a dog to gain the real treasures for it is who is in the way.

(8) Outer world rule: You must do something to get into flow.

Inner world rule: You must stop doing to experience flow.

(9) Outer world rule: Spend time only with positive people/influences.

Inner world rule: Experience the “negative” for it is a doorway to reconnecting with what is real.

(10) Outer world rule: Trade the present for the future.

Inner world rule: To reject the Now is to reject yourself.

(11) Outer world rule: Try, try, try.

Inner world rule: Don’t try. Just be.

(12) Outer world rule: If you want something really bad, do whatever it takes to get it.

Inner world rule: If you want something really bad, let it go to gain it.

Your friend,

/tej

p.s. Most people’s inner world is a mess because they’re trying to apply the same conditioned outer rules to their inner world. Doesn’t work. If you’re feeling crummy or sad or defeated or afraid, learn to align with the rules of the inner world and you’ll become free. Again.
