Subject: Musing 13: Experiencing the magic of life

During years 1-3 of online business, I didn’t understand the magic of life.

Nor did I want to.

I had a head full of dreams. And wanted to figure it out MY WAY.

But every time I did, I quickly fell down.

And kept myself from growing.

I said, “What the fuck. I have no idea what I’m doing. But I know a lot of people recommend x action. I don’t know where x action is going to take me. Heck, x action may not even be the best action, but I’m just going to do it consistently for x period of time. And see what happens…”

And that’s what I did.

You know what happened?

In what way?

In ways I could have never foreseen.

In high school I started a blog to document my entrepreneurial journey. Was that a good decision at the time? I didn’t think so (it took me 3 months to convince myself to pay the small cost of hosting the blog LOL). Neither did anybody else. I was the butt of the joke. “Tej has a blog?! Haha why don’t you create a diary bro?!”

Shit was straight jokes.

I even laughed like “Damn, maybe I should create a diary?!”

But anyhow, I didn’t care.

I simply set a goal for myself:

Every day I am going to write a blog post without fail.

And you know what?

That’s what I did. I kept this up for years.

And by the time I was done, I had over 900+ posts.

But here’s the thing:

In the beginning, I didn’t know where this blog was going to take me.

I had no hopes for it.

Heck, I didn’t even like writing (nor was I good at it. Seriously. I didn’t even know the difference between ‘than’ and ‘then’. Some days I feel like I still don’t lol) to keep it all the way real with you (because every time I thought about writing I thought about my English Teacher and we all know how English class went. Shit was just raining C-’s non-stop!).

But none of that mattered.

I was simply going to write. And do it daily without fail.

So I did.

And by doing so, I unknowingly made room for the magic of life.

In what way?

  • Way #1) By writing a blog post a day for years, I developed my copywriting skills (without knowing). Since then, I’ve been able to use those same skills to write multiple 6-7 figure promotions in a variety of different niches. If I had never started that shitty blog, I would’ve never built my copy skills. If I didn’t build my copy skills, I would’ve kept failing at my biz ventures. If I kept failing, I’d probably be working in finance or someshit right now and hating my life.
  • Way #2) By writing a blog post a day for years, I stumbled across ‘copywriting’ by luck after watching a late-night infomercial and Googling the writer behind the ad. After learning about copywriting, I went down the rabbit hole, used the writing skills I had already built (especially the storytelling skills) as my foundation and quickly got good. By getting good, I used my newfound copy chops to build a 6-figure info-product business which was one of my first big wins (prior to this just about everything I tried failed!).
  • Way #3) By writing a blog post a day for years, I built up a small following. One day, a random reader messaged me saying he digged my writing style. And if I would write copy for him (I wasn’t even advertising copywriting services or anything). I thought “Hmm, interesting! Let’s investigate further.” So we hopped on a call, shot the shit, exchanged stories, and I asked “what budget did you have in mind for this?” His response: $3000-$4000 USD/month. “Say no more,” I thought. And boom that was the start of working with clients which eventually sent me down the agency road
  • Way #4) By writing a blog post a day for years, I had amassed a very teeeny tiny email list. Every time I’d travel, I’d hit up my list and say “I’m going to be in x City on x date. I’m still under the drinking age (especially when I went to the USA), but if you want to meet up and crack open a brew, I’m sure we can find a way. Holla!” And people would respond (surprisingly). And we’d kick it. During one of those trips, I met up with an entrepreneurial killer from Cali. We shot the shit, hit up a party, and traded business stories. Then I came back home. Years passed and he hit me up randomly with a biz idea so we hopped on the phone. The idea didn’t have legs to it, but through that call he introduced me to a killer in the marketing field (I would have probably never found this guy on my own). And I started learning from him. And applying. After a while of doing so, I was able to grow another biz to $50k/month using the frameworks and system I picked up from him.
  • Way #5) By writing a blog post a day for years, I grew more confident and took bolder risks. One of those risks was to make a list of the top marketers and cold email them asking if I could apprentice under them for free. One of the stats I leveraged in the cold email was the blog I built and # of readers/subscribers. I don’t know if that carried any weight, but it did land me a 4.5 year apprenticeship with a 8-figure ClickBank marketer that opened me up to the world of direct response like nothing else.
  • And that’s just the BIG magical moments… There were so many more wild stories like waking up one morning to find an email from Edgerrin James sitting in my inbox showing nothing but love and support (NFL hall of famer, running back for the Colts).

“Okay okay, good for you Tej (thanks lol)! But why are you telling me all this?”

2 reasons.

Reason #1. If you had told me on Day 1 of starting that shitty blog that all the above was going to happen, I would’ve thought you were crazy.

But that’s the magic of life.

Life unfolds in ways we cannot foresee.

When we’re about to make a decision to commit to something, far too many times we want to know EVERYTHING before we commit.

  • How is this going to work?
  • Where is this going to take me?
  • What’s the path?
  • How is this going to fit in my 5 year plan?
  • How long is it going to take?
  • And on and on.

(If we don’t see a clear path, we don’t do it.)

But that’s not how life works.

Nothing is a straight line (sorry Jordan Belfort).

Life works in mysterious ways.

All you have to do is COMMIT to something and see things through (this is all it takes to make the magic of life work for you!).

Reason #2 (more important reason). I’m sure right now you’re probably wrestling with yourself trying to figure out if you should take x action or not. Chances are you’ve been raging war against yourself for a minute now.

But maybe you can use this email as inspiration to take that leap?

I don’t know.

But I sure hope so!

Because there’s magic on the other side of every commitment you make.

So why don’t you make a commitment right now?

“For the next xx days, I’m going to do x without fail.”

And if you need some accountability, drop me a reply telling me what you’re committing to and I’ll hold you accountable!

Deal? 🙂

If so, get ready to experience the magic of life!

Your friend,

PS. Don’t read this email and think you have to start a shitty blog of your own.

That’s not the point of this email.

The point is to open your eyes to the magic of life once you make a commitment to a path.

So right now, make your commitment. And see things through.

That’s allllllll you have to do to experience the magic of life!!
